What isThe Weightlifting is a sport whose goal is to raise the most amount of weight possible. The weight is distributed on disks placed at both ends of a bar. Weight lifting (male) is an Olympic sport since the first edition in 1896 (Athens Olympics). Already women's weightlifting entered the program of the Olympic Games only in the edition of Sydney (2000).
Basic rules
The athlete should do weight lifting at two points: pulling and throwing. It has three attempts to get run goal, ie raise the heaviest weight possible.
Snatch:
The bar should be raised above the head in one motion (without break).
Pitch (in two parts):
1st - The competitor must raise the bar to your shoulders (above chest). Then the lifter squats or bends the legs. Then you should get up and align.
2nd - The bar should be raised above the head, while the lifter is a moving form of scissors with your legs. With arms outstretched, he should get the aligned legs. You should be with the body stabilized for two seconds, waiting for the signal "down" which is given by the judges of the competition.
The best performances in the two surveys are added together, and the winner is the one lifter to get add higher score. In case of a tie is declared the winner the competitor with lower body weight.
Categories
The categories are defined in terms of body weight lifter. For men there are eight categories, while for women are seven.

- In Brazil, the sport is organized by the Brazilian Confederation of Weight Lifting (CBLP), based in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
- Globally, the sport is organized by the International Weightlifting Federation (FIH), based in Budapest (Hungary).
Important Competitions:
- In addition to the Olympics, we can highlight the World Weightlifting Championships which is held annually (except in years Olympics). The last edition took place in 2015 in the city of Houston (USA). The weightlifters from China, Iran, North Korea and Russia were the highlights, being victorious in various categories.

- China: 7 medals (5 gold and 2 silver)
- Kazakhstan: 5 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze)
- North Korea: 4 medals (1 gold, 3 silver).
- Iran: 2 gold medals
