Alice Graziuso - Judô
Judo was created in Japan as a mental, physical and moral pedagogy, in 1882. It's considered a modern martial art that evolved to a combat and Olympic sport. The objective is to either throw or takedown your opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue the opponent with a pin, or force the opponent to submit using the joint lock or a choke technic.
Scoring:
Yuko - the smallest score that can be awarded. It's scored when the judoka's throw is partially successful.
Waza-ri - "one half point". When it happens twice in a match (in favor of the same judoka) it's considered a full pint and match ends. It happens when the judoka throw the opponent and he lands only partly on his back.
Ippon - "One full point" (100). Decides the winner and ends the match if scored. It happens when the judoka throws his opponent with the opponent's full back in the floor or when he is held under control on the mat for 25 seconds.
Penalties - Shido - minor rule infringements and long period of non-aggression and it can be used to determine the winner.
- Hansoku make - major rule infringement, or for accumulating four shidos. It results in the loss of the match and expulsion from the tournament.
