Swimming - Julia Dutra 9C
Swimming is a water sport, normally individual, but it can be teams. It's one of the most popular Olympic sports and it has many variations in competitions. Swimmers can compete in pools or in open-water too.
But well, swimming was not a competitive sport in it's beggining. The first evidence of swimming was from the Stone Age, on paitings from around 10.000 years ago. After this, Iliad, Odyssey and many other books have made references to swimming.
This sport has became an competitive sport in England, 1830, but it was only popularly known on the 19th.
Swimming has many "styles" like Crawl, Butterfly (known as Fly), Backstroke (Back), Breaststroke (Breast) and Freestyle. In competitions, only one of theese styles can be used.

MALE OLYMPIC SWIMMING GOLD MEDALISTS:
MICHEAL PHELPS, one of the most important Olympic athlete, won 5 Gold medals only in this Olympics in Rio, and one silver.
